The Face-Eating Leopards Society
I once met a fellow, quite chipper and proud,
Who joined up with leopards, a dangerous crowd!
“They only eat faces of others,” he said,
As the cats licked their lips and then nodded their heads.
He cheered and he clapped as they sharpened their claws,
He chanted their slogans and praised all their laws.
“They’ll never eat mine,” he announced with a grin,
(Though a twitch in his cheek gave a hint from within.)
The leopards grew hungry, as leopards will do,
They looked at his face — well, wouldn’t you too?
A pounce, a crunch, and a very loud bite,
And that was the end of his confident night.
Now folks in the valley all whisper in fear,
Of the leopards who feed on whoever is near.
And each time they claim, “It won’t happen to me!”
The leopards just smile and purr, “We’ll see.”
